Treat the entrance gate as part of the itinerary

All Kruger entrance roads are not interchangeable. Your approach direction, daylight margin and booked camp determine whether an arrival feels calm or becomes a race against closing time.

Gate and camp times vary seasonally and operations can change. Check SANParks on the travel day, carry the required booking and identification details, and use a conservative arrival estimate.

Critical timing

Do not build a trip around late admission

SANParks describes limited emergency late-arrival arrangements for certain pre-booked gate and camp combinations, subject to conditions, availability and charges. They are a contingency, not a planning service. Phabeni has no late admission.

If a flight or long road journey makes the margin uncertain, sleep outside the park and enter after opening the next morning. That protects safety, staff time and the first safari day.

Kruger entrance gate questions

Which Kruger entrance gate should I use?

Choose the gate that produces the safest daylight arrival and the shortest sensible first drive to your booked camp. The closest gate on a map is not always the best choice once flight, road and seasonal gate times are considered.

Can I enter Kruger after the gate closes?

Do not plan on late entry. SANParks describes limited emergency arrangements at certain gates and camps, with conditions and charges, while Phabeni has no late admission. Confirm the current official rule and build a large buffer.

How fast can I drive from a gate to camp?

Use SANParks travel-time guidance, not ordinary road-app estimates. Wildlife, stops, speed limits and congestion make park travel deliberately slow, and you remain responsible for reaching camp before closing.
